Foreign investment increases in Myanmar garment sector

During the first three and a half months of current fiscal year, which started on October 1st 2018, Myanmar's Cut-Make-Produce (CMP) has imported goods worth $885 million. During the same period last year, the figure was about $698.413, according to country's commence industry.

Myanmar CMP industry includes manufacturing of garments, bags and shoes. The country exports its CMP products mainly to Japan, few European countries, South Korea, United States and China.

The majority of Myanmar garment industries operate through CMP system. Under this system, retailers place order with highly capable and well financed factories in international market. Myanmar has been practising this system since last 20 years and also plans to export garments in future through FOB system.

In addition to foreign investment, the sector also sees an increase in its number of workers which in turn increases overall productivity.
