TEA Tirupur Exporters Associates

Tirupur Exporters' Association submits an ambitious pre-budget memorandum

In a pre-budget memorandum submitted to the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, TEA has recommended the Centre to empower successful textile clusters with adequate infrastructure such as world-class design studio, Research and Development Centre and incubation centre for technical textiles. Tirupur Exporters' Association believes that these infrastructure facilities will facilitate rapid growth of not only the existing textile business, but also enable its foray into the niche segments creating balanced growth opportunities for the industry.

The association believes that these reforms are necessary to bring in more power to the textile clusters and they want the centre to work towards building large-scale labour housing and hostels in Public-Private Partnership mode so as to enable the permanent migration of skilled labourers towards industry clusters. The association was also quite vocal about the need to have a dedicated agency to work as a growth fuel for the knitwear sector as a whole and be more specific to their needs.

The association also requested in their memorandum  that the Centre brings the implementation of Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2016 into action. TEA wants to embark upon an ambitious goal of achieving a turnover of Rs One lakh crore by 2020, from the present Rs 35,000 crore (both domestic and exports), and push Tirupur ahead in the race even further and the pointers in the memorandum certainly signal this ambition.
